Standard Mental Health First Aid

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 12-hour SMHFA Course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, family and co-workers. The SMHFA course teaches adults how to provide initial support to adults who are developing any of the following mental health problems, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or mental health crises:
- Depression.
- Anxiety problems.
- Psychosis.
- Substance use problems.
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
- Non-suicidal self-injury.
- Panic attacks.
- Traumatic events.
- Severe psychotic states.
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use.
- Aggressive behaviours.

Instructor

Tareq Ahmed
Tareq is an accredited Standard Mental Health First Aid instructor with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia. His experience and current qualifications included a Bachelor's in Psychology and currently completing his Masters in Psychology, and his bout with mental health illness, allow him to bring unique energy in the delivery of the MHFA courses. He is also passionate about sharing his story and assisting others in the hope of de-stigmatising the taboo nature of mental health, especially amongst ethnic males.
